Under the overall supervision of the FAO representative in Armenia and the Senior Project Coordinator of GCP/GLO/674/RUS Project, in collaboration with FAO Senior Communication Officer for Europe and Central Asia; under the direct supervision of Assistant FAO Representative in Armenia and the National Project Coordinator (GCP/GLO/674/RUS), the National Communication Specialist will pursue the objectives and activities outlined below. The overarching objective is to raise awareness of and respect for FAO in Armenia, in particular its work under the GCP/GLO/674/RUS Project, with key audiences in Armenia including the general public.

Responsibilities
For FAO Representation:
- Establish a professional relationship with media through issuance of news releases and opinion articles, direct assistance to journalists developing their own stories, meetings, seminars, social media, and occasional press trips;
- Prepare and disseminate press releases and media advisories on FAO projects and activities in Armenia, in English and Armenian languages (topics may include trainings, workshops, field days, presentations, etc.);
- Adapt selected FAO regional and corporate press releases to the Armenian language and disseminate to Armenian media;
- Establish/ update a list or database of media outlets in the country (television, Web, radio and print media), including contact details and names of journalists covering issues related to FAO's mandate and activities;
- Collaborate with FAO's Senior Communication Officer for Europe and Central Asia, to facilitate communication effectiveness in the country;
- Translate communication materials related to FAO Armenia activities from English language into Armenian language or vice versa;
- Support development of FAO Armenia's communication products (brochures, booklets, project bulletins, reports, posters, newsletters, etc.);
- Monitor national and local media on a regular basis and provide to the Senior Communication Officer a weekly list of URLs (PDFs in the case of print media) of media mentions of FAO (including ENPARD-related items), highlighting articles and anything else that may concern FAO Armenia;
- Design and implement/ or advise on communication plans for FAO Armenia projects if needed;
- Generate news, feature stories and other content for FAO websites, informing audiences of the Organization's work in or with Armenia;
- Participate in the UN communication group activities in Armenia, and contribute to the UN joint activities at the country level; brief FAO Armenia colleagues on meeting results;
- Prepare talking points, speeches and presentations for event launches, visits of senior officials, presentations, etc.;
- Perform other job-related activities that may be required to fulfill the overall objective of the consultancy.

For GCP/GLO/674/RUS Project:
- Establish a professional relationship with media through issuance of news releases and opinion articles, direct assistance to journalists developing their own stories, meetings, seminars, social media, and occasional press trips related to the project at national scale;
- Prepare and disseminate press releases and media advisories on the project's activities in the field of food security, nutrition and social protection at national level, in English, Armenian and Russian languages;
- Collect success stories, articles, news releases, etc. related to food security, nutrition and social protection issues in Armenia;
- Work closely with the PR company/ NGO responsible for visibility campaigns, social mobilisation and raising awareness of the project in pilots' areas; support project's partners in planning, implementation and monitoring of communication activities;
- Ensure timely notices for meetings/ workshops/ conferences among relevant project's stakeholders;
- Contribute to events/ activities/ workshops/ seminars organized by the project;
- Organise video and photo recording during events; create a photo-album, photo and video archive;
- Maintain the web page of the Project related to the project implementation in Armenia, including relevant national news in the field of food security, nutrition and social protection;
- Contribute to development of the Project's communication products (TV program scenarios, brochures, booklets, project bulletins, reports, posters, newsletters, etc.); Prepare talking points, speeches and presentations for project's events (e.g. launches, workshops, visibility campaigns, etc);
- Prepare and maintain up-to-date a detailed contacts list of project's stakeholders, including media contacts list, for Armenia, sharing the information when needed by FAO's Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia and the project in FA-HQ;
- Monitor national and local media on a regular basis and provide a monthly media reports (e.g. list of URLs, screenshots, PDFs in the case of print media) of media mentions of the Project and/ or FAO;
- Translate communication materials related to the project's activities from English into Armenian and Russian languages or vice versa;
- Collaborate with FAO's Regional Communication Officer to facilitate communication effectiveness of the project in the country and the region at large;
- Adapt selected regional and global FAO news releases to Armenian language and disseminate to Armenian news media;
- Perform other job-related activities that may be required to fulfill the overall objective of the consultancy.

Expected Outputs:
- Increased volume of news, feature stories and television programming featuring or mentioning the project and FAO, experts, data or publications – as measured through weekly reporting on media results;
- Project news releases and media advisories correctly adapted to Armenian language and disseminated in a timely manner;
- Presence of journalists/ reporters during project events.

RequiredQualifications
- Higher education degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field;
- At least 5 years of proven experience in communication or a related field with international organizations; work with UN organisations is an advantage;
- Proven experience in originating and preparing written material for use in various communication media, including skills in promotion campaigns;
- Knowledge of Mother tongue (Armenian language) as well as excellent command of English and Russian languages;
- Good written and verbal communication skills, coupled with highly developed inter-personal skills and ability to work under deadline pressure.
