The Macro Fiscal Management (MFM) Global Practice is looking for an Economist to join its team in Yerevan, Armenia. The selected candidate will have operational and analytical responsibilities, contribute and provide support to a variety of tasks related to the Armenian macroeconomic and fiscal issues. The selected candidate will work within the Armenia economic team, led by a Senior Economist for the South Caucasus.
Armenia is a lower middle-income country in Europe and Central Asia region, with a per-capita GDP of 3,600 USD in 2016. The MFM program includes macroeconomic monitoring and substantial policy dialogue with the authorities on macro-fiscal and macro-structural issues. In addition, the unit leads a multi-practice programmatic DPF.
The Economist will be a team member of the MFM GMF11 unit and will report to the Practice Manager. In the day-to-day work she/ he will contribute mostly to the Armenia MFM teamwork but may also take part in various teams led by different Task Team Leaders as agreed in periodic work program discussions.

Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze economic data on Armenia, including macroeconomic data, sector data, and external debt data; maintain and update the macroeconomic database for Armenia covering above areas and produce ad-hoc reports;
- Update and run the MFM macro-poverty model for Armenia, as well as other relevant macroeconomic and fiscal models and tools, and prepare and periodically update forecasts;
- Participate in missions to collect-analyze data as well as exchange information with Government/ Private Sector officials;
- Contribute to the preparation of the Country Performance and Institutional Assessment (CPIA) for Armenia and to the discussion of the results with the Authorities;
- Support the macro teams by contributing to policy notes, studies, and regional reports on a wide range of issues and specifically on fiscal policies and debt management, tax policy and public expenditure, growth, economic diversification and productivity;
- Participate in the design, preparation, implementation and supervision of budget support operations in Armenia;
- Participate in the design, preparation and dissemination of analytical economic work and reporting, including semi-annual economic reports and various briefs;
- Contribute to the interpretation of analytical findings, formulation of key messages, and identification of policy implications and recommendations that are supported by the evidence;
- Contribute to the drafting of presentations, reports, notes and analytical findings through web-based information channels;
- Support the Country Management Unit (CMU) in the implementation of the World Bank's program in Armenia;
- Collaborate closely with other Practices and liaise with the donor community.

RequiredQualifications
- Academic training: a master's degree in Economics, Finance or other related Social Sciences/ quantitative disciplines, and at least 5 years of relevant work experience;
- Technical proficiency: skills and experience in working on economic policy issues and data analysis; proven strong conceptual, analytical and evaluative skills in the foregoing areas; well-versed person in macroeconomic and fiscal management, and also in growth and distribution issues;
- Communication and team skills: high level of personal and professional integrity; self-starter; strong ability to function well in a multi-cultural environment and to work in teams; results-oriented personality with proven problem-solving skills, and strong communication skills;
- Language skills: proficiency in English and Armenian languages; proficiency in Russian language is an advantage;
- Writing: excellent English language writing capability;
- Computer skills: sound knowledge of STATA, E-views and other statistical packages and MS Office programs, including Excel;
- Versatility; ability to work flexibly on a range of assignments and adjust to a variety of complex evolving tasks to meet deadlines.
