Weapon Contamination Field Officer

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles. Established in 1863, the ICRC is at the origin of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
From various periods of armed conflict, populations living along the borders are subject to risks from presence and use of weaponry, including mines, explosive remnants of war (ERW), shooting and shelling. The ICRC works with local actors and civilians to build the resilience of and support affected communities.
To eliminate risks and enhance security awareness in this regard the ICRC Delegation in Armenia is announcing a vacant full-time position of Weapon Contamination Field Officer (hereafter WeC) based in Yerevan. This is a temporary position, for one year.

Main responsibilities:
Under supervision of the Weapon Contamination Coordinator, the WeC Field Officer will support in activities designed to build the resilience of communities from the threat of mines, enhance risk awareness and safer behaviour.

Responsibilities
-Specifically, he/she will:
-Conduct a knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) survey
-Check the accuracy of the collected data from the survey, follow-up and make analysis of the collected data
-Implement direct risk awareness and safer behaviour sessions to the communities, also support local partners in delivery of risk awareness and safer behaviour sessions
-Research and explore creative ideas for delivery of risk awareness and safer behaviour
-Support the ICRC and local partners in development of WeC communication materials
-Assist in the organizational processes of the ICRC interactions with authorities on Weapon Contamination-related issues

RequiredQualifications
-University degree
-2 years' work experience in WeC/mine action or a similar field would be an asset
-Fluent knowledge of spoken and written English, Armenian, Russian would be an asset
-PC proficiency
-Detail-oriented person, high sense of task prioritizing and ability to handle multi-tasking
-Commitment to providing accurate analysis, data and overall support by preserving high level of confidentiality
-Good knowledge of the geographic area assigned
-Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team would be viewed as an asset
