Description of the Survey
Save the Children Armenia is conducting Young Voices survey in order to collect the views of Armenian young people and children. Young Voice provides insight into how children perceive their situation and how they feel their rights are respected and fulfilled. The survey covers themes such as participation, education, security, the future and psychological problems. The survey is permeated in all its aspects by the articles of the Child's Rights Convention. It presents a useful advocacy tool in discussions with Armenian politicians, policy-makers and service providers who have the responsibility to make change happen and ensuring children's rights.
The main objectives of the project are:
- Assess the level of awareness among children/youth of their rights
- Identify the types and level of incidence of challenges children/youth face in their daily lives
- Identify any gender or age-specific differences in exercising their rights
- Design evidence based and targeted development and advocacy programs responding to the needs identified
- Influence national and donor policies/priorities based on the evidence through various national and international instruments
Description of the Survey
The survey will be implemented in 4 regions of Armenia (Ararat, Armavir, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor) and Yerevan. In the regions, rural and urban communities will be targeted. The sample of the survey will be 588 school children (age 12, 14 and 16) in 43 schools of regions and Yerevan. The survey will be carried out using self-administered questionnaires and focus group interviews.
The school children will be asked to complete the questionnaires by themselves, under a direct and careful supervision of selected and trained instructors.
Responsibilities
-Direct responsibilities of instructor include:
-Participate in training organized by Save the Children and World Vision Armenia MEAL staff to familiarize themselves with questionnaire and survey requirements
-Perform random sampling of participants at schools according to the provided sampling methodology
-Instruct, supervise and appropriately facilitate the process of completion of self-administered questionnaires with school age children according to the provided requirements
-Collect and present materials to the SC M&E Unit in an appropriate way
-If necessary, provide support (clarifications) to data analyst to facilitate process of compiling and analysis of gathered information
RequiredQualifications
-Higher education in Social sciences (Sociology, Social work, etc.)
-At least two-year experience in sphere of sociological researches
-Experience in working with children, ability and willingness to explain a large volume of information in clear and child-affordable language
-Good communication and listening skills, patience; attention to the details
-Ability and willingness to work in high-speed environment and within strict deadlines
-Ability and willingness to communicate with people
-Ability and willingness to travel to marzes (Ararat, Armavir, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor)
-Excellency in Armenian languages
