Description of the Survey
Save the Children Armenia is conducting Young Voices survey in order to collect the views of Armenian young people and children. Young Voice provides insight into how children perceive their situation and how they feel their rights are respected and fulfilled. The survey covers themes such as participation, education, security, the future and psychological problems. The survey is permeated in all its aspects by the articles of the Child's Rights Convention. It presents a useful advocacy tool in discussions with Armenian politicians, policy-makers and service providers who have the responsibility to make change happen and ensuring children's rights.
The main objectives of the project are:
- Assess the level of awareness among children/youth of their rights
- Identify the types and level of incidence of challenges children/youth face in their daily lives
- Identify any gender or age-specific differences in exercising their rights
- Design evidence based and targeted development and advocacy programs responding to the needs identified
- Influence national and donor policies/priorities based on the evidence through various national and international instruments
Description of the Survey
The survey will be implemented in 4 regions of Armenia (Ararat, Armavir, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor) and Yerevan. In the regions, rural and urban communities will be targeted. The sample of the survey will be 588 school children (age 12, 14 and 16) in 43 schools of regions and Yerevan. The survey will be carried out using self-administered questionnaires and focus group interviews.
The school children will be asked to complete the questionnaires by themselves, under a direct and careful supervision of selected and trained instructors. Survey Coordinator will oversee and facilitate the Young Voices survey field work.
Responsibilities
-Direct responsibilities of Coordinator include:
-Participate in training organized by Save the Children and World Vision Armenia MEAL staff to be familiarized with survey requirements
-Supervise and ensure the proper implementation of the field work
-Develop a chronogram of all activities related to the preparation and implementation of survey field work in close collaboration with SC MEAL Officer
-Prepare the materials to be used in the field work in accordance with the survey requirements
-Make preliminary arrangements and visit the survey points (schools) to assure the compliance with the filed procedures, sampling methodology, etc. Manage the communication between school administration and project staff.
-Develop a field work schedule specifying when will be each survey point (school) visited and by which team of instructors
-Organize and assure transportation availability in accordance with instructors' field schedule
-Organize and facilitate the work of instructors at survey points (schools) and timely respond to their queries/needs
-Report to Project team in case of problems/challenges and recommend solutions in a timely way
-Support the process of contracting of survey instructors
-Work in close coordination with SC MEAL Officer; Manage communications between field workers and program staff
-Manage data collection, storage and submission of the survey documentation to SC MEAL Unit in an appropriate way
-Perform any other related activities needed for the successful completion of survey field work
RequiredQualifications
-Higher education in Social sciences (Sociology, Social work, etc.)
-At least two-year experience in sphere of sociological researches. Experience in children-oriented programs and/or research is an advantage
-Excellent organizational and time management skills; attention to the details
-Good communication and listening skills; ability to effectively respond to the conflict situations
-Ability and willingness to work in high-speed environment and within strict deadlines
-Ability and willingness to communicate with people
-Ability and willingness to travel to marzes (Ararat, Armavir, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor);
-Excellency in Armenian language
