Description
As a part of its My Armenia project which is financed by USAID, the Smithsonian Institution is recruiting a Research Specialist. The Research Specialist reports to the Chief of Party. The position will be based in Yerevan, Armenia but will require travel to the regions periodically.

Responsibilities
- Working closely with Smithsonian colleagues, coordinate all activities related to ethnographic, historical, anthropological, and/ or scientific research for My Armenia in all selected destinations as well as in defined subject matters;
- Review and provide detailed feedback on academic research reports in a timely manner, with an eye towards aligning research activities with My Armenia Program needs;
- Work with researchers to develop and implement their activities so as to provide maximum benefit to My Armenia program needs and priorities;
- Ensure effective cooperation with the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography (IAE) of the National Academy of Science of RA or other research partners, serving as a liaison between My Armenia program and fellows/ researchers;
- Serve as primary point of contact between all researchers and the My Armenia program on all matters, including questions related to logistics, contracting, etc.;
- Where partner institutions are contracted by My Armenia, coordinate activities on behalf of My Armenia, and provide regular feedback to researchers;
- Ensure proper documentation of research activities, in consultation with Smithsonian archival policies and procedures;
- Encourage discussions on other areas of strategic cooperation with the IAE and other partners that can potentially contribute by research and storytelling activities of the program, including publication of academic and popular-scientific articles/ material;
- Provide support and input to develop the My Armenia annual work plans and collaborate with other team members to ensure activities are implemented in accordance with the work plan and ensure objectives are met in a timely manner;
- Assist in preparing narrative reports for the project activities related to the position;
- Assist technical STTA in planning and implementation of tasks within Armenia;
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Chief of Party.

RequiredQualifications
- At least bachelor's degree in Ethnography, Economics, statistics, Business or a related degree;
- Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills in English and Armenian languages;
- At least 5 years of experience in research or scholarly work in a field relevant to the My Armenia objectives;
- Experience with USAID or other donor projects will be a plus;
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail;
- Strong organizational and computer skills;
- Flexible and adaptable person able to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to work team members in remote location and from different cultures (i.e. in the U.S. and other locations);
- Fluency in English and Armenian languages.
