Description
The hired Short-Term Expert for Assessment of the Status of Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) in Armenia will be responsible for the implementation of the tasks mentioned below.
Responsibilities
The Short-Term Expert is expected to fulfil the following tasks:
- Provide an overview of international and regional initiatives and schemes on SFM criteria and indicators (Montreal Process, Forest Europe and forest certification schemes) and define preliminarily their applicability to the conditions in Armenia;
- Analyse the status of forest management in Armenia by the key elements of SFM as well as the prerequisites and obstacles for SFM practices in Armenia;
- Provide an overview of the recent, ongoing and planned initiatives in Armenia aimed at promotion and application of the principles of SFM;
- Develop a roadmap on promotion of the principles of SFM at national level in Armenia;
- Have meetings with the main stakeholders in the forestry sector (state, non-state, scientific-academic institutions, international organizations and others) to get respective information and initial ideas on promotion of SFM in Armenia;
- Present the findings of the assignment during a national-level workshop and contribute to the workshop organization and implementation: the comments and recommendations from the workshop should be incorporated in the final report.

RequiredQualifications
- University degree (equivalent to MSc) in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Natural Sciences or other relevant field;
- More than 5 years of experiences in the field of forest management, forest sector strategic framework and related topics;
- Excellent knowledge of the forest sector in Armenia including institutions (stakeholders), strategic and legal frameworks, SFM practices and projects/ initiatives, and perspectives;
- Strong analytical and report writing skills, ability to make recommendations and proposals for improvement or change;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Fluency in Armenian and English languages, spoken and written.
